Introducing Community Solar (CREF)
Community Renewable Energy Facilities (CREF) allow homeowners to receive additional utility bill credits through a shared solar community project. Participate in community solar and benefit from clean energy savings without installing any new equipment on your property!
How It Works
CREF credits are applied to your Pepco bill automatically. You simply pay SAMS 90% of the credit value each month.
Shared solar community project generates clean electricity
A community solar facility delivers clean power to the local grid, and you subscribe to a portion of that facility.
Pepco applies bill credits to your bill
Credits are applied directly to your monthly Pepco electric bill based on your allocated share of the project's energy production.
You pay 90% of the credit value
If you receive $100 in community solar credits, you pay SAMS $90 and keep $10 as savings on your electricity costs.
Receive a separate SAMS invoice
SAMS, the billing administrator invoices you for 90% of the credit value each month. Payment is processed on the latter end of the month.
You keep 10% of every credit
Under the CREF program, you'll pay 90% of the value of the community solar bill credits applied to your Pepco account. For example, if you receive $100 in community solar bill credits, you'll pay CREF $90 and keep the remaining $10 as savings on your electricity costs.

Simple Monthly Billing
You'll continue to receive your regular Pepco electric bill with the community solar credits applied. You'll also receive a separate invoice from Solar Asset Management Services (SAMS), the billing administrator for the CREF program, for 90% of the value of those credits.
Credits Applied
Community solar credits appear directly on your Pepco bill each month.
SAMS Invoice
A separate invoice for 90% of the credit value is issued by SAMS.
Automatic Payment
Invoices are generally issued during the latter part of each month, with payment processed about one week later.
